10 Days on the Master Cleanse: What We Learned, Not Just What We Lost
Craig and I just completed 10 days on the Master Cleanse, and while shedding a few pounds is always a nice perk, the real transformation has gone so much deeper than the scale.
For me, one of the most shocking changes has been the complete disappearance of hot flashes. Not a single one in the last 10 days. I’m waking ready to go—no sore feet, no drowsiness—even at 4:30 am and I’ve noticed that during squats and lunges, my knees no longer creak or complain. The whites of my eyes are bright again, and I’ve had incredible mental clarity and sustained energy throughout the day—without taking any vitamins. Hooray!
Craig has dropped several pounds as well, but what’s most noticeable is his energy and stamina. He’s been powering through physically demanding work—climbing ladders, hauling things up and down stairs, and working outside in the heat—without feeling wiped out. His sleep has improved, and we’ve both noticed something unexpected but so appreciated:
We’re being much kinder to each other.
Our moods are lighter. Our patience is better. Even my walks with Milo, our slow-strolling pup, have felt calmer. I’m not rushing him along like I usually do. I’m present, peaceful, and not feeling any need to hurry at all. Tula the turtle is very pleased. :-)
This is actually my fourth time doing the Master Cleanse, and I think its #6 for Craig. Every time brings something new to light, but this round has felt especially powerful.
We’re not diving straight back into solids just yet—we still have a few days of slowly reintroducing foods—and we’re using this time to pay close attention. We’ll be watching carefully to see if any of the symptoms we said goodbye to begin creeping back in.
I’d be thrilled to never have another hot flash again, and Craig would love to keep this steady stamina. We’re both feeling inspired to do some food journaling, observation, and good old-fashioned detective work to figure out what supports our bodies best—and what quietly undermines us.
The Master Cleanse isn’t for everyone, but if it speaks to you, I highly recommend reading the book and doing it right. When done properly, it’s not just a cleanse—it’s a reset for your body, your mind, and your connection to what truly nourishes you.
